Butch--in answer to your question "Why am I called "Jimmy" and not "John"?
I was named "John James" after two Uncles; of which Uncle Jim was more prominent in
my early life and also the "favorite" with my parents; hence, they started calling me
"Jimbo", "Jimmy", "Jim" and it stuck!  My legal name is "John James". 
My close personal friends call me "Jim", or  "Jimmy", or "Hey you"!!
