Class of 1964

Michael Kelly

What are you doing these days?
I am the Historic Preservation Officer for the US Army at the Presidio of Monterey.  On the Presidio are the remains of EL Castillo, a site listed on the National Register of Historic places which includes a Spanish Fort built in 1793 and a Native American village site used intermittently for over 3,000 years; also on the Presidio are Fort Mervine, the first fort built in California after California won it's independence from Mexico; a Historic District that comprises an Army post constructed in 1902; and nine Pre-historic and historic archaeological sites.

Tell us about your children.
Since I have never been married my attorney advises me I should not admit to having any children.

Highlights of the past 40 years.
Graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, in 1971 with a degree in Architectural Engineering.  Have worked for the Federal government as an Engineer in one form or another since then.  This has allowed me to travel and see the world.  I have lived overseas in Europe and the Orient for 10 years and have had the opportunity of traveling to over 30 countries.  I live on the Monterey Peninsula and will retire within the year.  When I retire I will work on hobbies including travel to Europe to visit friends and see more of the world.

Words of Wisdom to Impart?
When I look back at the places I have been and the people I met, I never wished I worked more; but I do wish I spent more time with friends and family, especially those who are no longer here.  Traveling around the world has taught me one basic fact, there is no place like home--The USA!!
