Class of 1964

Vicki De Venney
(King)

What are you doing these days?
I just finished being the guest director of a production of the 1983 Tony Award winning musical Quilters at So. Oregon University.  I built the giant dancing monolith for the premiere of They Came From Way Out There at Oregon Cabaret Theatre.  It’s a paranormal musical.  I will be consulting on a new 1-woman show: Introducing Miss Peggy Lee.  I continue to ride my American saddle bred gelding and am gaining on the upper level movements of classical dressage.  While I’ve been doing masks in a variety of media for quite a while, I’ve almost finished my first sculpture piece that will be cast in bronze.  I will be substituting for my friend teaching play reading this term at South Oregon University.  Always a glory of church choir singing, my community choir will perform for the “Feast of Will” when Ashland celebrates the opening of the outdoor theatre at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

Tell us about your children.
My children are of the furry, hoofed, feathered, and funny variety:  2 dogs, 5 cats, 7 chickens, 1 horse, & many fish in a small outdoor pond.

Highlights of the past 40 years.
Here are a few:  17 years as a film technician at Technicolor in Hollywood during which time I was a hippie, groupie & Vietnam War protestor, I traveled – Greece was a revelation.  The Light!  Culturally, philosophically, mythically, artistically, & physically astounding.  My marriage to an incredibly patient, indulgent, and truly kind man.  Friends, long-time and precious – forgiving, loyal, generous of themselves and gracious.  Singing in church choir and community choir.  Going back to school at 36 and earning my BFA in Theatre Performance.  Managing the university theatre costume shop for 8 years.  Teaching stage makeup, Intro. To Theatre, & Play Reading at South Oregon University.  Actually getting paid to act, direct & stage manage:  What a rush – money for doing something I love.  Scuba diving, white water rafting, hot air ballooning, and canoeing.  Guest artist at WSITT convention; ACTF guest demonstrator.  Yoga and an 18-year commitment to vegetarianism.

General Unloading Done Here.  Your choice of subject(s).
A nation at war with no one.  Socialized medicine, fuel efficient, non-polluting transportation, ZERO population growth, a plant-based diet, forgiving and compassionate minds.
